Malinverni, Godi, Angarano and the wooden bridge are the 4 works of Palladio that you see in this day excursion with a professional multilingual driver. They are located in the province of Vicenza, in the Veneto region.
Malinverni Villa Godi
Completed in 1542, the villa stands in a huge park with a large panoramic view. It’s one of the first “villa homes”, if not the very first one, of Andrea Palladio. For sure conceived before the journey in Rome that will give to his whole work an accentuated classic imprint. Hence in this villa, the middle part is recessed and opened in the piano nobile by a triple-arch loggia. Hence, the architecture of the Villa harks back to the late Gothic palace. Overall, a conception more closed, more severe than that Palladio elaborates in the rest of all his works. Inside magnificent cycle of frescoes decorating the main rooms of the villa.
Villa Piovene Porto Godi
Very close to the Villa Godi Malinverni we can find this building. For sure in a great position that enhances its structure. Hence this villa is the result of additions and amendments. All done over the two centuries, from the sixteenth to the eighteenth. Therefore there is no news of the project fatherhood, even if the attribution is to Palladio. As a result, the whole complex is elegant and beautiful. And it’s one of the most attractive Venetian villas.
Villa Angarano in Bassano
This villa dates back the 17th century. And The architect B Longhena builds it in his favored style. However, the central section is interesting. Most of all the arched windows are relevant. Because a balustrade connects them. And pilasters separated them. But the feature of the curved tympanum with statues is unusual. Hence Two Doric porticos frame the villa that are works of Palladio. Consequently, the right side portico ends with the chapel of the villa.
Villa Angarano – private residence
Ponte Vecchio on the Brenta river
Bassano del Grappa is the town where we can find this bridge. We also call it Ponte degli Alpini (Alpine’s bridge). Hence Andrea Palladio designed this covered wooden bridge in 1569. Therefore the bridge collapsed many times during the centuries for destructive floods. And the last time in World War II. But the reconstruction respects always the Palladio’s design. The bridge spans the river Brenta.
